Obsidian Tyrant
The Obsidian Tyrant sits on the Throne of Obsidian at the top of the Citadel: the toughest boss in the game.
Health and damage by squad size
| Squad | Health | Damage per hit |
|---|---|---|
| 1 player | 3,224 | 94.9 |
| 2 players | 5,642 | 104.3 |
| 3 players | 8,060 | 113.8 |
| 4 players | 10,478 | 123.3 |
The Obsidian Tyrant is in area 5 of Obsidian Citadel, and every area deeper into a map makes enemies a little tougher. In Boss Rush it comes back with 1.5× and then 2.2× this health.
Attacks
A boss chases the nearest player and hits hard up close. Every few seconds it warns with a flash (the warning is longer before a charge), then uses one of four attacks in turn. The lower its health, the more often it attacks.
Two rings of fire bolts in every direction, one right after the other. Find a gap or put up a shield.
A fan of shock bolts aimed at its target. Move sideways.
A fast dash in a straight line that hits everyone in its path hard. Watch the direction it flashes and step aside, or dodge through it.
Calls a pack of runners around it, more with a bigger squad.
The arena
Throne of Obsidian is the last area of Obsidian Citadel: clear the area before it and the gate opens. The boss is guarded by 2 packs (solo: 6 grunts, 4 spitters 2 brutes), and those packs may bring specials (Mender and Shieldbearer). Bigger squads face bigger packs and more specials.
On the map, the red dot is the boss and the green dot is where you start.
Weaknesses
Weak to Shock: +25% damage. It resists Fire (40% less) and Frost (40% less). Shock guns like the Arc Pistol, Tesla Rifle and Storm Caster are the best tools for it.

Tips
- Come at level 12 or higher; see the levelling guide.
- Spread out so one charge or spray can’t hit the whole squad.
- Kill the summoned runners quickly; they add up.
- Save your grenades, turret and abilities for the boss area.
- A Vanguard’s Bulwark and Fortify blunt the burst rings; a Ranger can roll through charges.
