Squadbreak is a free co-op shooter that runs in your browser at squadbreak.com. This page explains what we store about you, why, and the choices you have. In short: we don't ask for your email or real name, we store only what the game needs to save your progress, and the site shows ads from Google.
What we store
- Your account: the username you pick and your password. We never store the password itself, only a scrambled version (a salted scrypt hash) that can check it but can't be turned back into it.
- Your game progress: level, XP, gold, gear, weapons and upgrades, skills, class choice, career stats, and how many ad rewards you've claimed today and when you last claimed one (for the daily limit and the 2-minute wait).
- Login sessions: when you log in, we create a random login token so you stay logged in. It's kept for up to 30 days, or until you log out.
Other players can see your username, class, level and equipped weapon in the lobby and during missions. Nothing else on your account is shown to them.
What your browser stores
Squadbreak itself doesn't set cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to remember your login token and your sound settings (volume and mute). Logging out removes the login token. Ads from Google use their own cookies and similar technology, described below.
Network and security data
- When you log in or create an account, we use your IP address to limit repeated attempts. It's held in memory for about a minute and not saved.
- Squadbreak is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, and keeps short-term technical logs that we use to find and fix errors.
- The site's font is loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
Advertising
Squadbreak is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense: a banner in the lobby, an occasional full-screen ad between missions, and optional ads you can choose to watch for bonus gold. Ads never appear while you're playing a mission.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
- Learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google's consent message asks for your choice before personalized ads are shown, and you can change that choice later.
How we use your information
Only to run the game: to log you in, save your progress, let you play with others, prevent cheating and abuse, and fix problems. We don't sell your information, and we don't send marketing messages.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and progress until you delete your account. Login tokens expire after 30 days. When you delete your account, it's removed from our database immediately. Our hosting provider's recovery copies expire within 30 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time: log in, open the menu under your name at the top right of the lobby, and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your username, progress and login sessions. You can also email us at support@squadbreak.com with any question about your data or this policy.
Children
Squadbreak isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
