Beginner tips

What every new Squadbreak player should know, from switching guns to which enemies to kill first.

  1. Switch, don’t reload
When your magazine runs dry mid-fight, press Q to swap to your sidearm. Switching takes a fraction of a second; reloading takes one to three.
  2. Wake packs one at a time
Enemies sleep until you get close or they see you. Clear one pack before you walk into the next.
  3. Kill healers and spawners first
Menders heal their packs and Broodmothers keep hatching Mites. Both get easier the sooner they die.
  4. Learn the weaknesses
Every enemy takes extra damage from one element and less from another. A frost gun against runners, fire against grunts and toxic against brutes all make fights shorter.
  5. Flank shieldbearers
Their shield only covers the front and turns slowly. Step around them, or use grenades, explosions and chains.
  6. Sidestep the red laser
A sniper’s laser shows where its shot is going. Move out of the line, or dodge through it.
  7. Back off from swelling bloaters
When a bloater swells, you have about a second before it bursts. Get out of range.
  8. Use your turret
Press T to deploy one. It shoots the nearest enemy it can see and blocks enemy fire. You start each mission with a kit, and enemies drop more.
  9. Pick up gun and armour cases
Amber cases hold guns and blue plates hold armour. Whoever picks one up gets it for the whole squad: everyone rolls their own drop.
  10. Spend your skill points
You get a point every level. Your class skill makes your class’s signature ability stronger.
  11. Upgrade the gun you like
Gold buys upgrades for every part of a gun. A gun’s grade sets how far each part can go.
  12. Buy a boost before a hard fight
Damage, Armour and Rewards boosts cost gold and last your whole next game.
  13. Stick together
If the whole squad is down at once, the run is over. Downed players get back up after a few seconds, sooner with a Medic standing over them.
  14. Play a second character
You can have up to 4 characters. Gold and gear are shared, so a new character can use the guns your main has found.
  15. Try the other modes
Survival, Defend, Boss Rush and Extraction all pay XP and gold, and each has its own records.
