Quick answers to the questions new players ask most.
- Is Squadbreak free?
- Yes. Squadbreak is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to buy: guns, armour and mods only drop in missions, and gold earned in game pays for upgrades and boosts.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. Squadbreak runs in a web browser on a computer. Open squadbreak.com, make an account with a username and password, and play.
- Do I need an email address to play?
- No. Pick a username and a password. Your level, characters, guns, armour, skills and gold are saved to your account.
- Can I play with friends?
- Yes. Squadbreak is co-op for up to 4 players. Start a game and your friends can join it from the lobby while it runs. Bigger squads face more and tougher enemies, and better loot comes with them.
- Can I play solo?
- Yes. Every mission and mode can be played alone. Going down solo ends the run, so take care.
- Does Squadbreak work on phones or tablets?
- Squadbreak needs a keyboard and mouse to play. On a phone or tablet you can still log in and manage your characters, guns, armour and skills.
- What are the controls?
- WASD or the arrow keys to move, the mouse to aim, click to shoot, 1, 2 and 3 for abilities, Q or the mouse wheel to switch guns, R to reload, G to throw a grenade and T to deploy a turret.
- Which class should I pick?
- The Vanguard is the most forgiving (lots of health and a damage shield), the Ranger deals the most single-target damage, the Arcanist plays with elements and helps the squad’s cooldowns, and the Medic heals and revives. You can make up to 4 characters, so you can try them all.
- How do I get new guns?
- Guns drop from enemies in missions as amber cases, and every boss drops one. Bosses roll better grades, harder maps drop better grades, and every win pays out a gun or armour suit.
- What happens when I go down?
- You get back up where you fell after a few seconds. A Medic with the Resuscitation skill standing over you gets you up much faster. If the whole squad is down at once, the run is over.
- What is the level cap?
- Level 100. Every level gives a skill point and a little more health and damage. Elite skills unlock at level 50.
- What are Augment Cores?
- Very rare drops, mostly from bosses. A core and some gold push an upgrade part that is already at its cap two levels further, at extra strength.
- Who made Squadbreak?
- Squadbreak is an independent game. The art is by Kenney and the music by Juhani Junkala, both free to use (CC0).
